The Ultimate Retirement Plan
During the last couple of decades, Los Cabos has emerged as a favorite retirement destination for North Americans. U.S. and Canadian expats make up a large percentage of our Southern Baja California population, and it’s easy to see why.
1. Accessibility
Los Cabos’ gorgeous beaches and high-end amenities are only a short flight away from most U.S. cities; it’s only two-and-a-half hours to Los Angeles or Dallas, for example.
Developments like Palmilla include not only beautiful homes but also all the residential resources you could imagine: restaurants, beach clubs, spas, private charters, and more.
And the region itself is incredibly easy to navigate: Los Cabos is made up of the cities Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, as well as the 20-mile Tourist Corridor that connects them. Within a short distance, you can get to Palmilla Beach and the private Club Ninety Six, restaurants, internationally recognized stores, and so on. And, Southern Baja remains a safe and enjoyable destination in México.

2. World-class Medical Care
There’s been a noticeable investment in medical infrastructure in recent years, and Los Cabos is a favorite medical tourism destination: You can receive medical care in world-class hospitals and recover in the most luxurious setting—all while spending only a fraction of what you would pay in the United States. Sounds like a good opportunity to invite friends and family to join you while you recover, too!
There are several well-known medical brands in the region, and many offer American-style, English-language services. Koral Center in San José del Cabo specializes in health and wellness—with a concierge’s touch.
3. Year-round Sunshine
There’s a popular saying here: “There are no bad days in Cabo.” While I won’t go so far as to say we get 365 days of sunshine, I will promise some of the most amazing conditions you’ll ever experience. The weather here is perfect for sailing, fishing, and exploring the magical region.
The weather has made Los Cabos a popular host city, too, for international events like film festivals, golf and fishing tournaments, G-20 summits, IRONMAN, ATP tennis tournaments, and more.
4. Gourmet’s Delight
The food and wine scene here continues to evolve, and here you can find restaurants and menus that will please even the most discerning diner. There’s a palpable commitment to organic, locally and sustainably sourced ingredients, and these high-quality ingredients paired with the culinary wizardly of Los Cabos chefs result in some of the most flavor-packed bites I’ve had in my life. On any given night, you’ll find me dining on sushi at Nick-San Palmilla, Italian at La Deriva, or traditional Mexican at a food festival like Sabor a Cabo. Many menus are complemented by wines sourced from northern Baja’s booming wine industry like the Valle de Guadalupe. And, of course, the locally sourced seafood is fresh and delicious.
5. The People
More than anything, I have to talk about the people who make up our Los Cabos community. There’s a culture of warmth and service here that is practically infectious. Within the Palmilla community, it’s wonderful to experience the comfort of a small town with all the benefits of a metropolitan city. And, of course, we’re always making new friends and connections. People have moved here from all over the world, and it’s a beautiful thing to build friendships across cultures.
